A dear friend, Jáime Rubio , who writes some amazing stories , true stories, calls her site Dreaming Casually.
I´ve never asked her why this title, but I often wonder.
Has anyone seen the film caled Shining Through?? Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffiths star in it.
The first time I saw it , it blew me away. Now, I don´t know how many times I´ve watched it , but there is still one scene where the lump comes into my throat, my brain leaves the room....... and even though I know what´s coming next, I often find myself sobbing through this one particular scene.
The film is set in World War 2. Melanie griffiths is in a very difficult position as far as the Nazis are concerned, when Michael Douglas said ´´I should never have let you go...´ I knew immediately what he meant in the context of the film and burst into tears, accordingly.
The Melanie Griffiths character, however, doesn´t quite realise what he means , so he has to repeat. ´No, I mean.. I should never have let you go...´´´ Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw! Sob.!
It has been my favourite film of all time since it was made in, I think the 1980s.
That´s why I decided to call my site Shining Through, and although I sometimes write ´dark´poetry, this site is for only happy , optimistic things. Even a sad poem will have a light at the end of the tunnel shining through.
My dear sweet friend, I absolutely love your name for your blog and Shining Through is one of my all time favorite movies too. If you look on my facebook page of favorite movies its at the top of the list. I have watched that movie time and time again and I loved it more the more I watched it. Such an exciting tale of love and deceit set in Nazi Germany during WWII. Michael Douglas was such a great actor, and Melanie Griffith was so good too. Liam Neeson was great too, especially during times when you think she was going to get caught by the gestapo! (chills just thinking about it!) From the beginning to end that movie holds you onto your seat. I recall the end when he carries her over the line into Switzerland and he gets shot over and over...just a few feet to freedom and yet those few steps seemed to take forever. I cried over and over at how much he loved her he would die for her. Thankfully we see what happened at the end. I could only imagine that time period based on the things my grandma used to tell me about WWII. LOVE THIS!!!
ReplyDeletebtw- I named my blog and my books Dreaming Casually because it was always a phrase that stuck in my mind when I would sit on my bed and write. I remember an oldie had that same title and it is a beautiful song, but just the whole idea of dreaming casually, as if you are laying on your back in the grass staring into the clouds...dreaming...to me that is dreaming casually. :-) And that is why I called my blog that.
